The 1st Xl started the season away at Cheadle Hulme Ladybirdge on a sunny St George’s Day . New skipper Tommy won the toss and on a green wicket elected to bowl.Runs were at a premium early doors as Ryno and new Aussie Michael Singh settled on a tight line aliged with an outfield that was soft /heavy in places. Ryno struck first trapping the CHL opener in front and Michael opened his account after a change of ends bowling the other opener . At halfway the score was 68/3 with Alves enticing an edge to Hatch at slip . A dangerous partnership was ended by the returning Tommy Ryan as he claimed 2 in 2 balls . The Ashley fielders backed up their bowlers taking all chances on offer especially Ally Horn with one over his shoulder and a diving effort from Maz . Micheal finished with 3/35 and Tommy 4/46 his best return for the firsts as CHL ended on165/8.

Maz and Tommy Smith opened and put on 20 for the first wicket before the skip was adjudged LBW for 9.Maz was next to go stumped for 20.At halfway we were 48/2 with Hatch and debutant Jack Snelling at the crease. They upped the tempo taking us past 100 before falling on the same score for 35 and 30 . We were left needing 60 off the last 10 overs with the Aussie and Riz in . 2 6’s over square and one over extra cover from Michael helped to lower the run rate and it was left to Riz to hit consecutive 4 ‘ s to win the game with 10 balls to spare.Riz finishing on 22no and Michael 39no . 25pts. …A good way to start the season . First home game is next week against Haslington.
