Ashley 1st XI vs Haslington 1st XI (Home) – 30/04/2016
Although the lakes had disappeared from the outfield overnight we were still met with a rather sodden ground apart from the square which one has to say was in excellent condition considering the precipitation (that’s rain to our Aussie followers )of the previous 6 days.
Spongees out we managed in between the showers to get the ground fit enough for a 2.30pm start. The Haslington skipper won the toss and we were duly inserted. Tommy and Maz opened up and got us off to a good start taking 18 off the 2nd of our allotted 39 overs as they shared a stand of 42. Unfortunately although our top 5 all got starts no one could make the big score needed to make a challenging total and the innings petered out as once again we succumbed to their spinners. Subs top scored with 28 in a below par 120 ao
A good start was needed with the ball, alas it was not to be as Michael struggled with both line and length in his first spell . Ryno at the other end bowled a tight spell with Matty behind the stumps just failing to take one standing up to the wicket. The introduction of Alves into the attack paid instant dividends as he got one to go the other way 2nd ball to pin the opener LBW. Another catch went a begging off Subs who also struggled a bit for consistency. of line and length. Jack was handed the ball and soon sent the other opener packing having him stumped by Matt . Michael replaced Alves and although he took 2 wickets and a further 2 from Jack ,Haslington passed our score 6 down. Our cause not being helped by conceding 24 extras. Next week we travel to Kingsley looking for an improvement with both bat and ball.
