Ashley 1st XI vs Kingsley 1st XI (Away) – 07/05/2016
The 1st Xl travelled to Kingsley on Saturday with three changes to the previous weeks side. Out for various reasons were messers Snelling Freedman and Foster in came Danny Ahmed Adam Atkin and the chairman.
On winning the toss Tommy inserted the opposition on a sultry afternoon, hoping the opening bowlers would get some early swing with the new ball. Singha was the first to strike having the opener caught behind but Ryno ‘ s spell was curtailed after 5 overs due to a hamstring injury. After 10 overs Kingsley were 42-1 due mainly to some offline bowling .A double bowling change was made with Subs and Atko replacing the opening attack. Adam bowled an excellent line and length on his bowling debut being very unlucky not to claim a wicket as he finished with figures of 8overs 0/20. It was Subs who bagged the next wicket as he had the other opener plum in front. Alves replaced Subs and took 2 quick wickets both caught by Danny, the first one he showed off his circus skills by taking a tumbling juggling catch at cover.
Maz came on for Atko and claimed his first 1st Xl wicket caught by Alves at mid on. Although wickets were being taken at regular intervals the run rate was still upwards of 4 per over on a good batting surface . Subs came back for a second spell picking up a further 3 victims and Michael adding another as Kingsley ended on 198/9.
An excellent tea followed before Ashley could start their reply. With Tommy keeping he decided to drop down the order and so Rizwan duly opened with Maz . The pair put on 32 in 10 overs before Riz was caught for 17 cutting to point. The Kingsley slow bowlers came on and started to strangle the life out of the Ashley batting effort. In trying to up the tempo Subs walked past a straight one and was stumped whilst Singha and Hatch both perished trying to drive over the top. When Maz was out for 36 Kingsley sensed their may be a wobble but Tommy 31no and Danny 19no saw us through to 131/5 at the close.
A disappointing effort with the bat on a good track but credit to the opposition who know how to defend a total on their own ground. Kingsley 13pts Ashley 7pts
