Ashley 1st XI vs Port Sunlight 1st XI (Home) Р14/05/2016

The 1st Xl welcomed newly promoted Port Sunlight to Railway Field on a sunny Saturday afternoon. On winning the toss Tommy decided to bat first and Maz and Danny opened up. Maz scorched one through the covers early doors but unfortunately after that the wheels came off the Ashley innings. Danny and Jack both fell LBW, Maz and Subs both nicked behind whilst Singha was also out LBW in between. When Hatch mistakenly left one and was bowled we had slumped to 22/6 . Tommy and Riz took the score to 55 before Riz was caught driving for 14. Almo and Tommy added a further 17 runs before Mo perished caught at cover. Some lusty blows from Yass helped to take the score into the 90’s when Yass too was caught before Tommy was bowled for 40. Ashley 97 ao in 38 overs.
Early wickets were required and Michael duly obliged first bowling the opener and trapping the no.3 in front leaving P/S 9/2 giving the home side some hope. Subs joined in pinning the other opener in front. With attacking fields set any loose ball was dispatched to the boundary. Tommy rang the changes and Yassir got the next wicket with his first ball in an over which was a bit liquorice 49/4. A stand of 20 was then interupted when Atko got the batsman to play on 68/5. Alas it was not to be as the returning Singha could only dislodge one more batsmen as our score was passed 6 down. Another 30/40 runs and it would’ve been interesting.

Ashley 2pts P/Sunlight 25pts

The next port of call is Stockport Trinity where we hope to do much better.
