Ashley 2nd XI vs Timperley 3rd XI (Away) 28/05/2016
Ashley 2s faced Timperley in a top of the table local derby, looking to extend their perfect record.
After a rare second team warm up, Ashley won the toss and elected to field. Bryan Jones and Najeeb opened up, bowling well but struggling to stop an early flow of runs. Bryan got the first wicket, caught down the leg side by Dylan, who had a great game with the gloves once again. Timperley then kicked on, with the other opener scoring 56, although could have been run out a few times. When he was bowled by Tommy Ryan, the score was 88-2. Another good partnership threatened to take the game away from Ashley, but a streak of 3 quick wickets from Morfitt and Alves dragged the game back into Ashley’s favour. A couple of very questionable decisions gave number 8 Garg lifelines, and he took his chance smashing 49 at the end of the innings. Wickets fell around him, Almo taking 4 and hardworking Najeeb finishing with the final wicket. 208 the score on a good wicket which maybe should have been a lot less.
Digger and Riz opened up, putting on 25 before John was ran out for 17. Riz fell soon after, leaving Ashley 34-2. Morfitt and Cavanagh went about the rebuilding, putting on 76 for the 3rd wicket. They both fell in quick succession for 29 and 36 respectively when trying to increase the run rate. Cameos from Ali Horn and Semple, including a huge six from Horn onto the football pitch, gave Ashley a great chance of victory. Najeeb then hit a quick 20, but good bowling restricted the boundaries leaving Ashley with 19 to win off 3 overs. Bryan Jones hit a flat six down the ground and Almo smashed a 4 over the covers, to set up a tense 8 to win off the last over. Ashley required 4 off the final ball, but even with a great strike from Almo it was well fielded and Ashley had to settle for a draw. 206-8
Overall a great game with many positives that can be taken from it. Ashley host Prestbury next week
