Ashley CC 3rd XI vs Romiley CC 3rd XI

21 June 2015

Ashley won the toss and elected to field

3rds snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at home to table-topping Romiley. Mike won the toss and stuck them in, and we put in a great spell in the field to bowl them out for 139 in 35.1 overs. They were 1 down for 70 odd at drinks before deciding to take more risks. I benefited from this strategy by getting 4 wickets but its safe to say Josh W, Pete B (3) and Adam A (2) all bowled exceptionally; Josh knitting 5 consecutive maidens together with the new ball. The bowlers were well supported in the field, Planty with a catch of the season contender – a low one hander at slip.
Mike B and Mike P started well, putting the bad balls away to reach 32-0. Planty departed for 17, James joined Mike B after his 71 on Saturday  and continued where he left off. After depositing the opening bowler for 6 over mid-wicket  unfortunately he then nicked behind to the keeper for a lusty 18. Regularly wickets followed with no one going on to make the match winning score as Bashford and Stott bowled tightly. Mike reached 21 before being run out. Joe played well for his 21, especially against the talented left-arm spinner. We were all out for 109 with about 9 overs remaining.
25 points we really should havetaken. We’ll look to do better against Bowdon next week.
