Hale Barns visited Railway Field for the first game of the 2014 season on a chilly afternoon to be met by a green but hard wicket. On winning the toss the Ashley skipper invited the opposition to bat first and he shared the new ball with Tommy Ryan. The Barns openers started carefully as Alves started to turn the ball from the start beating the bat on numerous occasions as did Ryan.First change bowler Jamie Crowhurst claimed the breakthrough with a low full toss which Schora could only chip to Alves at mid-on and he would also claim the scalps of the Mahon brothers both LBW for 41 and 6 to leave the visitors 75-3 after 22 overs.Jamie would finish with 3-30 of 7 overs.Saeed and Iqbal then added an unbeaten stand of 168 with Iqbal hitting 107no off 54 balls which included 10 maximums and Saeed ending on 60no.
After tea the Ashley openers Ruby and Shyanne put on 57 for the 1st wicket with Ruby pouncing on anything short on his way to a top score of 38 which included 8 boundary 4s. Unfortunately apart from Shyanne 21 and James Semple 22 the rest of the batting succumbed to some poor shots and crazy running leaving the score 108-8 with 8 overs left.Hatch snr and Ashley skipper Alves saw off the remaining deliveries until Hatch was bowled off the last ball.
