Ashley 4th XI produced a fine performance to get a winning draw from their opening game. Captain Foster lost the toss, and the Heaton Mersey captain invited AShley to bat.
Harvinder Singh and Dylan Wimbury, opening the innings for the first time, gave Ashley a solid start, getting Ashley to 57 without loss, before Wimbury, fell for a solid 17, including an impressive 6 over square leg. Foster came in to join Singh, and took Ashley to 108, before Foster was well caught trying to pull Amjad. Coop and Baig both fell to good bowling from Shah before Singh was bowled for a fine 73. Some fine strokes from Jukes helped the Ashley lower order to get to 143, when Ashley were finally bowled out in their last over.
Heaton Mersey opened brightly, but tight bowling form EAdie and Broaders soon slowed the scoring rate, and Broaders dismissed captain Campbell Kelly. Eadie bowled Hill, but wickets were proving to be hard to come by. Tight bowling continued throughout, as Foster used 8 bowlers in search of Wickets. Coop ran out Alishan, then again eventually broke through the Heaton resistance, by bowling Jones. Birtles and Coop took two further wickets each as Ashley closed the field in as it became apparent Heaton Mersey wouldn’t reach the total, but the wickets were just a little too late to force a win. Heaton Mersey finished on 119/8.
