Widnes Win Close Fought Match
3rd XI Season Begins in T20
Despite posting a low total, Ashley made a decent attempt to defend 98. The top order struggled to get going, with boundaries few and far between. Runs eventually came from Naveed and Rick, who put together a partnership of 40 odd to give us a total to defend. The Widnes bowlers made it difficult to score freely, with D.Quinn taking 3-10 from his 4 overs.
Widnes started their reply watchfully, but lost regular wickets throughout and the run rate began to grow. Mike and Jaan took wickets in both their spells, and Rick took 3 in his first bowling spell for Ashley. The quality bowling from Ashley had left Widnes needing 11 to win from their final over which they reached through some extras and boundaries from their skipper Cain.
Ashley battled well despite only having 10 men, and should have seen the game out. However morale was still high and everyone showed good fight. Warrington up next in the cup, who were defeated in their first game by Grappenhall.
